Tape fasteners

Customer: Brady Converting, Kungälv, Sweden

The challenge: Brady manufactures customized tape fasteners. They also deliver equipment adapted to the components to be attached. The project delivered four machines that fitted plastic parts to a medical product. The precision of the assembly was defined as +-0.05mm in X and Y. The machines would be in a clean room environment.

Our role: We participated in the process of developing a Robot/Vision solution in which the system calibrates itself at every stage. We programmed the robot and communication via TCP/Ethernet using a vision camera. After carrying out studies, we tried to find the best lighting for each control and measurement in the system.

Result: The machines were easy to clean, user-friendly and easy to take care of. We managed to achieve the target cycle time of <8 secs despite the fact that the tape had to be pressed down for 2 secs.
