Base Engine & Cylinder Head

The trend to downsizing in motor vehicle engine manufacture is unchanged. This means obtaining a higher specific output with smaller displacements and fewer cylinders. The higher specific output of these engines is made possible by complex and combined charger systems of all kinds. Semcon is well prepared for the future in its Base Engine & Cylinder Head unit, because in all important areas such as below our engineers possess excellent know-how.

• Downsizing
• Complex and combined charger systems
• Valve train systems
• Engine optimization

Apart from developing new engines and engine concepts it is important to optimize the consumption, emissions and noise generation of our customers’ existing systems, for example through the reduction of scavenging and friction losses as well as through weight optimization.

In addition, Semcon engineers are available to develop highly complex engine subassemblies such as cylinder heads and crankcases. The aim in developing cylinder heads, for instance, must be to sensibly combine the valve train system with the cylinder head assembly group. This work is complemented by the development of underhood engine accessories, complex castings, and provision of support which extends into the production process.
