Periphery & Cooling
The Periphery & Cooling subunit is responsible for the complete thermal management of a vehicle. At Semcon we view thermal management as far more than simply configuring the cold and hot coolant circuit and positioning heat exchangers in the vehicle. Instead, the task involves:
- Geometric and functional integration of components
- Cooling of the engine and other major components
- Climate control in the vehicle
- The independent heater
With the development of hybrid vehicles the parameters valid up to now for heating, cooling and air conditioning will change dramatically; the significance of successful thermal management will increase considerably in conjunction with electrification. Thermal management is thus an important aspect of e-mobility.
The focus therefore must be on the new challenges raised by the continuous temperature equalization of battery and power electronics and by a possibly necessary cooling of electric motors. However, the package of variants powered by conventional internal combustion engines must not be negatively influenced by possible modular strategies of our customers.
