Cable carousels

Semcon was hired to design and construct an airbag-powered cable carousel. The carousel will have a total load of 500 tons and is lifted by a crane onto a ship to be transported to wherever in the world the cable is placed onto the seabed.

We therefore constructed an airbag system with a plain bearing in the middle of the carousel, which allows the load to rotate in an almost friction-free way by using drive motors. The rotation is used to wind the cable from the carousel.
