Case: Repair Efficiency for Saab Automobile and General Motors Europe
Semcon performs repair efficiency work for Saab and General Motors Europe in order to ensure that the service technician has access to the most efficient and effective service and repair methods at all times.
Challenge
Semcon performs Repair Efficiency services for General Motors Europe (GME), i.e. Saab Automobile and Opel/Vauxhall, with the objective to identify more cost efficient repair methods. Semcon is responsible for the repair efficiency work for Saab since 2004. Because of good results Semcon has been given similar responsibilities for additional GME brands.
Solution
With vast expertise and experience of creating service repair methods and calculating standard times for GME, Semcon has a very good foundation for optimising repair procedures. In addition, the knowledge and innovation from the method development work is seamlessly exchanged and forwarded to the repair efficiency team and vice versa creating continuous synergies.
In order to develop more cost efficient repair methods, the methods are analysed from a technical point of view. The analysis pinpoints the root cause of a problem and identifies possible improvements. Reviewing the spare part breakdown level or improving the repair methods are examples of actions that can be taken. Parts recycling analyses are also performed in order to provide suggestions on utilizing recycled spare parts.
Result
Per Edlund, responsible for Repair Efficiency within GME and Semcon’s customer interface, comments Semcon’s achievements: “Repair efficiency is a cross functional process in which Semcon is a key player for the success of the result.”
